Common Skin Problems

Our experienced medical providers evaluate and treat people of all ages for conditions of the skin, hair and nails.

You can't name a single health problem that doesn't sooner or later make an appearance on the skin. Lyme disease shows up as a rash on the tummy, diabetes often presents as a yeast infection in the groin, and lung cancer can pop up on the scalp or anywhere else that has a blood supply. And then there are the hundreds of diseases that occur primarily on the skin such as psoriasis, acne, warts, and skin cancer. Dermatologists spend an additional 4 years after graduating from medical school learning the ins and outs of skin diseases after which they take a series of exams testing their knowledge and skills. Board Certified means a physician has been well schooled, has passed the necessary exams, and is now fully prepared to treat patients who have skin problems. This following list is just a small sampling of what we see in our clinic.

  • Acne
  • Benign Skin & Pre-Cancerous Lesions
  • Rashes
  • Hair and Nail Disorders
  • Full Body Exams
  • Mole Removal
  • Analysis of All Biopsies

Our providers may prescribe a variety of topical and oral medications including Accutane, antibiotics and hormone-modulating medications, as well as peels and light treatments. This will depend on type and severity. They will counsel and follow-up to ensure safety and efficacy.

Skin cancer, moles, and other lesions

Our experienced and well-trained professionals will do a thorough total body skin exam. Suspicious lesions can be treated with cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, topical chemotherapy, or removal with biopsy. All biopsies are read by two board-certified dermatopathologists, including our own Richard Parkinson, MD.

Our providers are experts in recognizing and treating Basal Cell, Squamous Cell and Melanoma skin cancers and treating and removing them effectively. We also offer treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers with a gentle superficial radiation therapy which is noninvasive and nonscarring.

We diagnose and treat many varieties of rashes, including dermatitis/eczema, rosacea, psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, allergic contact dermatitis, hives, seborrhea/dermatitis, folliculitis, fungus, etc. Treatments may include topical creams, oral steroids, lifestyle changes, and use of biologic injectables.

We diagnosis and treat nail and hair conditions with use of topicals, oral medications, and/or Plasma Rich Platelet therapy.
